Annie Duke is an unlikely poker champion. Even though her brother Howard Lederer is a poker champion, Annie Duke kind of stumbled on to the fact that she was a poker master. After some convincing by her brother, Annie Duke went to Las Vegas and joined a WSOP event. She finished 13th and took home $70,000.
After that success, and mind you it was her very first tournament, Annie Duke and her husband decided to move to Las Vegas. Annie Duke attended one of the most prestigious Universities in the US, and was on her way into corporate America, but fate had other plans for Annie Duke.
Annie Duke has gone on to win several tournaments and even knocked her brother out of the WSOP when she finished 13th. Her most memorable win came
against a televised event of a table of only 6 players. 6 of the biggest stars in poker attended. It came down to a heads up between her and Phil Helmuth. She played incredible and took home the title.
The tournament was a winner take all prize of 2 million dollars. Phil was up to his old antics after being beaten and paced around away from the table after losing muttering to himself and being bleeped out a few times, but that's just Phil Helmuth and that was just Annie Duke up to her old tricks. |
